Yusen Logistics (Americas) will open a new 229,000-square-foot warehouse in Chicago on May 20 that will employ 170 people.
The warehouse will include 185,000 square feet dedicated to distribution and container freight station services, a climate-controlled area of 15,000 square feet, with separate freezer and refrigerated units totaling 3,000 square feet to accommodate the company’s growing perishables customer base.
The new facility is located near the cargo entrance to O'Hare International Airport and will be certified by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to screen air cargo prior to loading on planes.
The Chicago facility will support Yusen Logistics’ direct less-than-containerload service from Hong Kong and Japan by serving as a CFS for inbound shipments, enabling expedited sorting and distribution throughout the United States. The facility will also promote Yusen Logistics’ growth in the automotive industry, offering a twice-weekly shuttle-truck service out of Chicago to parts distribution centers in Silao, Mexico.
“Chicago is a key market for Yusen Logistics,” said Scott Corless, senior vice president and general manager of the international division. “We have operated facilities in Chicago since 1972 and this new facility will allow us to offer our customers enhanced service options.” - Chris Dupin
