Valero Energy Corp. on Friday announced the purchase of a 110-million gallon ethanol plant at the Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon from Aventine Renewable Energy through its subsidiary Valero Renewable Fuels. It plans to reopen the idled facility later this year.
Port officials said the combination of the surrounding region's grain production capacity and the port's multimodal capabilities, including barge, truck and rail, will help Valero produce and distribute a large amount of ethanol.
Valero is a large refiner and marketer of petrochemical products and transportation fuels.
Valero Renewable Fuels now owns 11 ethanol plants, including two in Indiana.
