UP reports $1 billion quarterly profit

   Union Pacific Corp. said it had a profit of $1 billion in the third quarter, compared to $904 million in the third quarter 2011.    Operating revenue for the Class I railroad was $5.3 billion in the third quarter, 5 percent more than $5.1 billion in the third quarter 2011.    "Despite a 12 percent decline in coal volumes and significantly weaker steel and scrap metal markets, we generated best-ever financial results across the board," said Jack Koraleski, Union Pacific's ch...
