As spot market capacity ticked up 0.3 percent last week compared to the week prior, average prices for van and flatbed services dropped 0.5 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively, according to DAT.
Refrigerated transport rates showed no change.
According to DAT’s sampling of the market, van rates were the highest in Los Angeles at $2.08 and lowest in Philadelphia at $1.67, with a national average of $1.85. Flatbed rates averaged $2.17 nationally, but ranged from a high of $3.14 in Harrisburg, Penn., to $2.03 in Phoenix. DAT said reefer rates were $1.43 in Lakeland, Fla., and $2.26 in Elizabeth, N.J. The national average mile rate of $2.20 for reefer service, “remains high for late summer,” the industry analyst wrote. - Jon Ross
