Liner shipping company Safmarine Container Lines has released a new mobile application for Android devices that allows customers to access and download shipping information on demand.
This launch by the Maersk Line subsidiary follows an April 2011 release of a similar e-business app for Apple’s iOS devices.
The release of this and many other Android counterparts lately highlights a trend of meeting customers’ needs across the access point of their choosing. Benoît Lebrun, Safmarine's global e-business manager, said “Android has become an increasingly popular platform for many of the mobile devices used by our customers and the launch of this new application will further improve our customers' access and experience with Safmarine by making it even easier for our customers to do business with us, no matter where they are.”
The Safmarine app allows customers to look up sailing schedules, track containers and consignments, find Safmarine contact details, and it features an alert option that pushes information directly to a user’s device.
Lebrun also said that the company’s mobile Website can be accessed from any mobile device and that it has seen increased usage recently. “The increased use of this site reconfirms the growing popularity of mobile devices in the shipping business,” said Lebrun.
