SATO, a provider of barcode printing, labeling, and radio frequency identification device technologies, will acquire Achernar, a privately held firm based in Buenos Aires.
Achernar, founded in 1971, is one the region’s largest providers of adhesive labeling services to industries including food, cosmetics, electronics and postal services.
SATO said the acquisition is part of a larger plan to expand its offerings and coverage in South America. This deal follows its 2010 purchase of NODOS, also in the region.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. For its previous fiscal year, which ended March 31, 2011, SATO reported revenues of $914 million.
