Newgistics is graduating from a specialized e-commerce logistics company into an full outsourced provider with the capability to manage the entire online process for retailers, starting with the customer interaction at the Web store front and taking orders, to back end fulfillment, parcel delivery and returns.
The Austin, Texas, company made three announcements late Thursday about its enhanced capabilities to execute an omni-channel strategy for retailers.
Newgistics will use a business-to-consumer commerce platform operated by hybris, recently acquired by global software giant SAP, to provide retailers with Web design, implementation, posting of product content from suppliers, integration, hosting and support services, in addition to its traditional post-order logistics services.
hybris commerce suite integrates a company's Web ordering, inventory and other systems to give customers a seamless shopping experience.
Newgistics said it is also integrating order management software from Manhattan Associates that matches inventory with supply and instructs the warehouse how to handle orders placed online or through a mobile application.
In addition, the company has acquired Tacit Knowledge, a digital commerce consulting firm, to provide retailers with strategic advice about e-commerce, including technology implementation. - Eric Kulisch
