The ocean carrier Maersk Line has added a new port call at Singapore, and an additional vessel to its weekly Mashariki Express service between Asia and East Africa.
Roundtrip voyage time has increased from 42 days to 49 days and transit times in both directions on the service have been increased by a few days, now taking 13 days from Maersk’s mega-regional hub in Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia to Mombasa, Kenya, and 16 days on the return voyage from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Tanjung Pelepas.
In April, Maersk decreased the roundtrip voyage time of the Mashariki Express from to 49 days to 42 days (reported by American Shipper April 18
). The carrier also recently slowed its other weekly Asia-East Africa loop, the Horn of Africa service, adding a sixth vessel and increasing roundtrip voyage time from 35 days to 42 days (reported by American Shipper July 6
The revised rotation of the Mashariki Express is Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, and Singapore. The service is currently operated by seven vessels with an average capacity of 1,778 TEUs, and subsidiary Safmarine continues to take slots. - ComPair Data
