IAG Cargo has signed a commercial agreement with Qatar Airways to purchase capacity on Qatar Airways-operated freighters, the company announced Friday, and as a result of the deal, IAG is ending an agreement with Global Supply Systems.
According to IAG Cargo, Qatar Airways will operate five B777F flights a week between Hong Kong and London on behalf of IAG Cargo, beginning May 1.
Qatar Airways is already a partner with IAG Cargo through the oneworld global alliance.
The termination of IAG Cargo’s agreement with Global Supply System will take effect at the end of April. It had leased three B747-8 freighter aircraft.
“We have reviewed our long-haul freighter program following the merger of British Airways and Iberia freight businesses to create IAG Cargo. The review took account of the growing cargo capacity available to us from our passenger fleet as well as the outlook for the air freight industry overall, and we have made the strategic decision to significantly revise our long-haul freighter program,” stated the chief executive officer of IAG Cargo, Steve Gunning.
