Cargotec, a provider of marine terminal equipment and technology, has appointed Mika Vehviläinen to president and chief executive officer, effective March 1.
Tapio Hakakari, Cargotec's vice chairman, will continue as the interim president and CEO until Feb. 28.
Vehviläinen is currently the President and CEO of Finnair Plc. Previously he has held senior leadership positions at Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia, and has worked in logistics and service development in the United States and Asia.
Lanny Cawley, who served as executive director at the Port of Kalama for 19 years, will retire, effective March 31.
Cawley joined the Washington state bulk port as director of property development and management/marketing in 1994. He became director in 1998. Before that, he managed the Port of Woodland.
Cawley is credited for making numerous improvements to Kalama, including development of the 75-acre Kalama River Industrial Park, construction of 156,000 square feet of industrial buildings, and development of the North Port heavy industrial site
The Port of Kalama is located in Southwest Washington on the Columbia River and immediately off of Interstate Highway 5. Its industrial area includes seven miles of riverfront property adjacent to a 43-foot-deep navigation channel. The port is also served by the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads.
Houston attorney and civic leader Janiece Longoria has become the first woman in the Port of Houston Authority’s 100-year history to chair the port commission.
She said her leadership will be based on collaboration. "I do it with the help of every person in this room, elected officials, labor, private industry, community leaders and members of the port commission, acting together for the same goals," Longoria said in a statement.
TSD Logistics, a transportation services provider to the tire and rubber industry, has appointed Robert Muir to chief executive officer and president.
Following 25 years of work in Dallas, Muir joined Texarkana, Texas-based TSD as chief financial officer in January 2010.
