European shippers hail end to special treatment for shipping

The European Shippers's Council said it welcomes a decision by the European Commission (EC) to end guidelines that gave the shipping industry special treatment under European antitrust law, such as allowing exchange of infrormation. The commission said last month it would allow current maritime guidelines to expire on Sept. 26, 2013, adding they were no longer needed.
