A new report from the Security for Business Innovation Council has highlighted the growing threats to critical information from what it dubbed “disruptive innovations” like cloud computing, social media technologies, enterprise mobility and big data analytics.
The report “Information Security Shake-Up: Disruptive Innovations to Test Security's Mettle in 2013
," drew from opinions of the security chiefs at 19 major multinational firms on how to tackle the security concerns that arise from these new IT dynamics.
The report is not focused purely on supply chain, transportation, or logistics activities, but has applicability to those fields, given the number of parties involved in the international movement of goods. And one of four key recommendations in the report specifically calls on companies to tackle supply chain IT-related issues.
“Organizations are accelerating the implementation of new technologies just as there is growing concern about the integrity of globally sourced IT components,” the report said. “Comprehensive programs are required to evaluate as well as demonstrate trustworthiness of hardware and software.
“Going into 2013, organizations must increasingly question whether their IT supply chain can be trusted. Organizations should seek assurances regarding all of their suppliers’ technology development and delivery practices.”
