Rail Logistics is expanding its "Cold Train
" logistics service, adding new equipment and adding new destinations this year.
In early 2010, Rail Logistics launched the intermodal reefer service service in partnership with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway from the Port of Quincy in Washington State to destinations in the Midwest--Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Iowa.
Monthly volume has grown from about 100 containers of perishable commodities when the service began to 400 containers today and the company projects volume to reach 600 containers per month by the end of the year.
The company said its success "prompted requests from many shippers and receivers for additional service to more destinations. Consequently in the first half of 2012, Cold Train responded and successfully sent approximately 100 test loads from Washington State to Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New England. As a result, Cold Train will be offering regular service to/from these areas beginning next month."
The company said it is adding 300 new 53 foot containers made by Hyundai to its fleet.
