Cargolux has launched a twice-weekly, Boeing 747-8 freighter flight from Luxembourg to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, routing the new flight through Baku, Azerbaijan, and Hong Kong. The flight returns to Luxembourg via Mexico.
Cargolux officials expect the flight to carry electronic and information technology-related components from Asia to Texas.
"This is the kind of air service expansion that makes our airport a major economic driver for the Dallas-Fort Worth region," DFW's Jeff Fegan said in a statement. "We've worked very hard to bring Cargolux to DFW Airport, and we're confident that our airport will become a major U.S. market for this renowned carrier."
According to a press release, DFW's cargo offerings have tripled in the last decade, leading to 664,000 tons of cargo activity at the airport in 2012.
"DFW's commitment to growing its cargo portfolio is paying off with service such as this new Cargolux flight to Luxembourg," the airport's Luis Perez said in a statement. "Our mission is to bring more air service to the citizens of Dallas/Fort Worth, which brings more economic opportunity, jobs and growth to our region." - Jon Ross
