Oracle on Monday released an application aimed at giving discrete manufacturers real-time visibility into their outsourced operations.
Oracle Outsourced Manufacturing for Discrete Industries is part of the Oracle’s E-Business suite for supply chain management. The tool is meant users to “track and manage virtually all aspects of outsourced manufacturing business processes so that they can proactively mitigate risks and achieve customer commitments,” Oracle said in a statement.
Among the processes original equipment manufacturers can track are inventory balances, financial positions, and production bottlenecks, such as quality issues, delays, and material shortages. The tool leverages data and capabilities from other functions within Oracle’s business suite, including order and inventory management platforms.
The tool uses in-memory computing, new database technology that allows data to reside in a computer’s physical memory rather than on a hard disk or external drive, making it more easily accessible to manipulate in various applications.
