   China Shipping Container Line said it has let options to acquire four additional containerships lapse.    The decision follows last week's announcement that CSCL lost 1.44 billion renminbi ($229 million) in the first quarter of 2012, compared to a loss of 140 million RMB in the same 2011 period.    The company had revenue of 6.45 billion RMB in the first quarter of 2012, compared to 6.52 billion RMB in the first quarter of 2011.

   The terminal operator COSCO Pacific said its operating profit grew 40.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012 to $57 million.    COSCO’s revenue grew 33.5 percent to $174 million.    Container throughput at terminals in which COSCO has a stake increased 11.5 percent to 12.8 million in the first quarter.    COSCO is a subsidiary of the state-owned China COSCO Group, and includes container leasing and manufacturing divisions. — Eric Johnson

   The liner shipping company Evergreen Line joins the China to the Southeast Asia portion of "K" Line’s JABCO 1 service beginning with the April 30 sailing of Guayaquil Bridge from Shanghai.    Hanjin Shipping is already a slot charterer and dubs the loop JTS.    Maersk Line on Friday confirmed to American Shipper that it has resumed accepting bookings on the eastbound trade from Europe to Asia.    The line had stopped accepting bookings in late March due to a backlog of cargo in Europe, a story reported first by American Shipper on March 21.    The backlog was created, Maersk said, by cancellations of sailings following the Chinese New Year and was estimated to be cleared by early May.    But a Maersk spokesperson told...

   The container shipping line CMA CGM said this week it has opened a new head office in Mumbai as it seeks to grow its position in the Indian Subcontinent.    “CMA CGM is one of the four biggest carriers in India and we have the ambition to bring our group to become a leader offering the best customer service,” said Ludovic Renou, managing director for the line in India.    The French line currently offers seven weekly services to India.
